FROM MOMENT TO MOVEMENT
A Message from RISE CEO Diahann Billings-Burford
January 3, 2022
Years and decades from now when history looks back at this time, will we recognize this period as a series of moments? Or will it come to be defined as a movement for a cultural revolution and racial reckoning - one that brought social change?
As 2021 came to a close, I reflected on whether we are truly in a cultural revolution. Events of 2020 opened eyes to the systemic and individual racism and other forms of oppression that continue to prevent us from achieving true equity. It offered a chance for change, but actualizing that change required continued, intentional action in 2021. Fortunately, I saw continued action last year, not only at RISE as we held even more engagements in 2021 than in 2020, but across our country. Please take the time to watch this video as I hope that it will inspire you to take action.
The power in reflection lies in how we use it to shape the future. At RISE, we recognize the role we have to play in 2022 to do our part to in fact make this a movement that achieves racial equity. It will take more action, more commitment and true courage.
