Position Summary

Director, Communications

Location: New York, NY
(In office at minimum 2 days a week; remote other days)

Director, Communications will serve as the lead member of RISE’s brand storytelling and external and internal communications efforts. The position is responsible for raising public awareness of the RISE brand, impact, priorities and culture across all media and platforms, as well as support RISE’s CEO and leadership on external engagements. This role also works closely with the CEO and leadership team to support communications efforts with key RISE internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead RISE brand storytelling efforts across all platforms and digital / social media
  • Develop overarching communications strategy
  • Create strategic responses to current events
  • Manage media relations
  • Proofread internal reports and external content for partner engagement
  • Develop communications tactics (written, video, social, etc.) to highlight impact, support fundraising and drive engagement
  • Work closely with Sr. Manager, Communications and Digital Media to create content around RISE programs
  • Manage digital asset and graphics creation for social media and partner relations
  • Manage RISE brand including the creation of brand video assets
  • Lead marketing communications integrations for corporate partnerships in conjunction with VP of Strategic Alliances & Development
  • Cultivate close working relationships with media
  • Monitor key changes, trends, etc. around topics and conversations related to social justice, racial equity, athlete activism, race relations, legislation, etc. and provide direction to remaining RISE staff
  • Work with Sr. Manager, Communications and Digital Media on website management

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter, possesses an incredible attention to detail and thrives in collaborative, solutions-oriented environments
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, likely within in communications, media, journalism or content
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required (writing, proofreading, story development, media materials, strategy documents, decks, etc.)
  • A passion for advancing racial equity and committed to the RISE mission of ending racial discrimination, championing social justice and improving race relations
  • Proven track record working with organizational and industry leaders
  • Strong worth ethic and ability to innovate in a fast-paced environment, while being agile enough to pivot quickly if needed
  • Possesses strong management skills and empowers those around him/her/them to succeed

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in graphic design and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Fluent in the current and emerging media platforms and trends
  • Proven track record of executing on multiple projects at once
  • Ability work autonomously but also able to collaborate seamlessly on cross-department initiatives

Compensation

The salary range for this position in New York is $85,000 - $95,000 per year commensurate with experience.
