Intern, Events & Programming - Summer 2017

The Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) is dedicated to harnessing the unifying power of sport to advance race relations. We are currently seeking an Events and Programming intern for summer 2016. Reporting directly to the Director of Events and Programming, the selected intern will support all aspects of RISE events and programming, including content development, partnership building, implementation, budget management and evaluation of all programs in our space. He/she will work closely with the RISE staff and external partners to drive our commitment to diversity and inclusion.


  • Assist with the planning and coordination of RISE events and/or programming
  • Assist with the creation and procurement event assets 
  • Draft event management communications including:  timelines, calendars, reports, etc.   
  • Support with onsite event management and setup as necessary
  • Help establish budgets for events
  • Observe client intake and event logistics
  • Coordinate outreach efforts and development of relationships with other organizations and build partnerships to extend RISE’s message and generate support
  • Identify potential sponsors and supporters for events
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of mailing, media and guests lists
  • Drive partner engagement through unique experiences and events/programming
  • Develop and maintain contact lists   -
  • Create and update databases and presentations


  • Interest in the Sports and Non Profit Sector; Special Events and/or Hospitality Industry
  • College coursework or comparable work experience preferred
  • Motivated, responsible, self-starter, able to work with minimal direction
  • High level of attention to detail, strong work ethic and high level of professionalism
  • Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
  • Proficient with PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Strong admin, organizational and interpersonal skills; Ability to work quickly and efficiently
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team
  • Prioritizes and multi-tasks effectively
  • Familiarity with and understanding of best practices for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms
  • Comfortable talking on the phone with media, colleagues, and vendors
  • Ability to travel domestically and work nights or weekends when necessary
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus


  • 6-10 weeks (June 5 through Aug. 11, 2017)
  • 40 hours per week, generally 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; could include some nights/weekends
