Intern, Communications & Marketing – Summer 2017

The Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) is dedicated to harnessing the unifying power of sports to improve race relations and drive social progress. We are seeking a Communications & Marketing Intern for summer 2017 to assist the Vice President, Communications & Marketing, and Director of Social Media with internal/external communications. The internship is based in Detroit with possible in-state and out-of-state travel. Apply early. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.


  • Assist with internal/external communications (e-newsletters, media pitches, news releases, social media posts, etc.)
  • Assist with media relations and social media at events
  • Complete research related to media contacts
  • Other duties, as assigned


  • Must have completed minimum of junior year before start of internship
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Experience with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. (Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop preferred.)
  • Preference to students majoring in communications, journalism, marketing or public relations
  • Preference to students with prior internship/work experience in communications field


  • 10 weeks (June 5 through Aug. 11, 2017)
  • 40 hours per week, generally 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; could include some nights/weekends
